Using space bags when flying internationally?

I’m going to Switzerland in June, with stopovers in Singapore and London, and was wondering if it’s okay to use space bags for my clothes? I know that it will obviously not make my luggage lighter, thats not the issue, I just need more space. I have purchased extra weight allowance so I am fine for the weight requirements.

People have said to me that customs may make me take my stuff out of the bags? In which I will be effed cause I don’t have a vacuum to get it all back in. Is this the case? Or will everything be alright?

Also, I am staying with family over there, so there is no issues about not having a vacuum when I leave.
And this is why I need the extra room, my mums making me take all these gifts over for them!

Thanks!

Does air vacuuming/sealing clothes in plastic bags ruin the clothes in the long run?

I’ve seen products that remove air from special bags so that more clothes can fit into the bags. It appears as if the clothes are being scrunched tightly together and vacuum sealed.

I was wondering if this would cause any long term damage to clothes, such as creases or wrinkles that are hard to remove or cannot be removed.

Also wondering if certain clothes should not be vacuum sealed, such as silk. I probably wouldn’t risk that, but instead use it for sweaters, shirts, and pants mostly.

I’m trying to save closet space and thought this may be a good idea but I am worried about my precious clothes :)

Thanks for the help!

What to do about a roommate who won't clean?

My roommate and I have been living together for four years and knew each other for a number of years before we got a place together. Neither of us are neat freaks. I’m a bit of a slob and he’s a bit of a hoarder. He crams the common storage spaces full of the junk he buys and saves, and I don’t pick my clothes up off the bathroom floor, and leave used tea bags on the counter. Never the less, before we moved in together we discussed cleaning. I gave him the choice of being responsible for the kitchen or bathroom, and he chose the kitchen, and told me he’d clean every Monday.

The problem is, he has not kept his end of the bargain. Initially I thought he just didn’t understand that the bathroom needs to be wiped down, the stove needs to have the grease scrubbed off of it, baseboards needs to be dusted, appliances wiped off, floors swept and mopped and carpets need to be vacuumed because he previously lived at home and his parents did all of this.

After numerous talks, he’d keep telling me "Well tell me what you want me to do!" Like I’m his boss who’s supposed to direct his every move. I decided to make a cleaning list and post it on the refrigerator with slots so whoever cleaned what can indicate the name and date they’ve cleaned.

Now he insists he doesn’t have to write when he cleaned because he just "does it" and doesn’t need the recognition. This is total BS. He doesn’t do anything (or if he does it’s incredibly insufficient) and it’s not about me giving him recognition.

So the only thing on that list right now is my name and all the things I cleaned, and and again I find myself having to clean the kitchen, which is his responsibility, because the landlord has to come over to fix a leak in the kitchen sink and my roommate has taken off for the weekend.

clothes and flea bombs?

I’m going to fog for fleas on Monday, I’m currently rearranging my kids rooms and vacuuming like crazy (and freezing the vacuum bag in a sealed bag overnight so I can use again).

I know I have to have everything off the floor but I have a lot of blankets and clothes (5 of us in the house) that were previously stored in closets and plastic boxes.

Should I wash & dry them then tie them in plastic bags and when we’ve fogged put them away or leave them on a table in bags set off the foggers and wash them after?
I just don’t want to wash them all now just to wash them again after we bomb for fleas.
Any help would be appreciated.

ps. after we fog the entire house what should we do to avoid a reinfestation, we don’t have cats or dogs.

What is the best way to pack clothes when moving? Tips?

I am moving again & I suck at packing my clothes..

We are getting a small truck. I have a ton of clothes.

I bought a big 55 gallon tub & I thought about using the space saver, vacuum, bags but not sure if they would really work. I used the travel ones and it did not help.

I have done the whole just throwing them in a big black plastic bag, but that was a nightmare to organize.

Are the space bag vacuum sealed clothes totes allowed to be carried through checked luggage?

I am going on a long trip and I saw these vacuum sealed clothes bags at walmart that are used for space saving. So wanting to save some space in my luggage I bought the largest one a tote bag 25"x20"x10" that fits perfectly in my suitcase. I am not sure if the TSA will accept it or not. Does anyone know about this, have you tried it or know some one who did? I am leaving tomorrow morning so I need to know asap if this is stupid or not! Thank you in advance.
